The focus of this symposium is the modeling of complex systems with behaviour strongly influenced by interactions of different mechanical components and/or physical media. This interdisciplinary area encompasses the fields of solid, fluid, and soil mechanics, including the modeling of micromechanical interfaces in composite and heterogeneous materials.

Computational models of interfacial coupling in problems such as contact, fluid-structure interaction, soil-structure interaction, heterogeneous materials, multi-phase flow in porous media, and bio-mechanical systems, among others, are of particular interest.
